Dance into the spring!
Welcome to an Italian estate from the 18th century where we live, dance and eat during our journey! We lodge in the so called Torre della Grola ( Tower of Crows) which is the former house of an agricultural property. It is renovated in a way that it sends a warm welcome to guests who seek quietness and relaxation surrounded by nature. The house is located in a wine region, on a hill above the town of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella from where you have a splendid view onto the Lake Garda. The hotel offers comfortable rooms and a small apartment and has room for up to twenty persons. It is a family owned residence where the owners grow wine, olives and vegetable for the restaurant which belongs to the hotel. There’s plenty of room for dancing inside, but also outside on a meadow or the terrace. View pictures here or more at www.torredellagrola.it
Besides dancing there is enough time to enjoy the idyllic area we are staying in. Hiking tours with various levels of difficulty lead us to the red marble quarries, to the romanic church of San Girogio, to the fortress of Monte, to cascades, and to the surrounding villages and towns.
The city of Verona, famous for the love-story of Romeo and Julia, is just 15 kilometers(km) away and easy to reach by car in only half an hour. Of course there is also public transportation. Verona invites us for a tour in the cobbled streets of the old center and a cup of coffee on the market square, enjoying the sun and the smell of spring that’s in the air. A broad variety of historic sightseeing-spots wait to be discovered: The old amphitheatre L’Arena di Verona, la Piazza delle Erbe (a typical Italian market square), the house of Romeo & Julia, the famous church of San Zeno from the 13th century, and many more.
Or what about an Italian ice-cream, strolling around the picturesque towns on the shores of Lake Garda? The villages of Sirmione, Peschiera, Bardolino or Garda are perfect for wandering along, enjoying the scenery, going for pizza and pasta in a typical Italian ristorante or taking a boat to another wonderful village waiting just on the other side of the lake…
Themed “Balkan-Express“, we experience fast-paced dances from the countries of Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary in folklore- and gypsy- tradition. The level of difficulty depends on the participants and can be easily varied.
Don’t forget to bring skid proof shoes for dancing on an even stone floor. Maybe you have a second pair for the meadow in front of the house, and of course comfortable clothes for dancing. For those of you who are brave enough to try out the cold water of Lake Garda in April, bring your bathing suit and swimming trunks! And for hiking, bring a pair of hiking boots – but don’t worry: We are not in the Alps so you’ll also be OK on the trails when you have a good pair of sneakers.
